Caribbean

So where did the month of April go? I have only just realised that I have been a little slack during April on my updates and now it is already May. I must apologise but I must have had too much sun!

Yes I saw the weather in the UK too and I was lucky, thanks to my new relationship with Sunsail. I have just become an Ambassador for them and I was able to experience a sailing holiday in the beautiful Caribbean. I loved it and adjusted well to the change of pace and routine from my normal time spent afloat sailing. I shall tell you more about my holiday at another time.

Now it is back to business and I am so ready and excited. At the weekend I joined thousands of people in Plymouth to wave farewell to the 24 brave competitors taking on the Transat Bakerly Race. This is a historic and tough event where the sailors race solo from Plymouth, England to New York, America. Already the race has claimed three victims as they negotiate the tricky weather systems that travel across the North Atlantic.

Seeing the start of the race and speaking to the skippers at the weekend has made me very excited to start the Vendee 2020 Vision project with Artemis this week. We will be offering the Artemis Academy Alumni the chance to step up to an IMOCA 60 for some single handed sailing practise with me on board to coach them. It is a great opportunity and I hope that this new young talent that we are helping develop will be able to be on the start line of a future Vendee Globe.

As I am back on the water next week I hope this current sunshine stays. Last week when I was practising it was snowing! What was all that about?
